Introduction and Outline
Classical
authors are a major source of which our knowledge of the Celtic Druids is based. Authors from Classical time period appear
to have been fascinated by the Druids. (Bunson, M 1994) Arguably they wrote the most reliable information regarding the
Druids. Greeks and Romans were the first to write about this subject. Flaws do exist in the reliability of many
of these authors however arguably it is much more reliable then alternate sources.
This websites purpose is to determine how reliable these sources in fact are.
Those studying the Druids will need to compare sources as well as using archeological evidence to support
these authors. The researcher must also study the author. A page is dedicated to the author which is useful to determine
any factors that may have influenced their writings. Care must also be taken if these authors used any other writer’s
opinion without recognition. (Piggot, S 1968) These issues are a few that this website will address.
This site will concentrate only on what Classical authors had written about
the Druids (not Celts as a whole). Sources that mention Druids or clearly allude to Druids will be used only.
